Calgary Basketball Academy was established in August, 2010. CBA began with 20 athletes and the Club Program has grown into one of largest Boys & Girls Basketball Clubs in Western Canada. CBA is committed to growing youth basketball in Calgary. CBA believes in providing structure and discipline to assist young adults to be as successful as possible both on and off the basketball. CBA offers year round opportunities - Fall and Winter Skills Training Programs; and Spring and Summer Club Team Programs.
Youth Basketball in Calgary is a non-profit name which is run during the months of April to July. This non-profit organization (YBC) allows each and every team to run their own team budget. All expenses and revenue being audited by a private accounting firm and meeting the needs of all Alberta Non-Profit rules and regulations. YBC and CBA work together to to allow players to train during the off season and then have the opportunity to play on teams during the Spring.
Calgary Basketball Academy is a club where everyone belongs. From our U11 players all the way up to our U17 High School athletes, our teams and coaches help each other and have a true sense of the word "club". Many clubs in Calgary may have several teams but what distinguishes us from other clubs is we consider ourselves one big team and have a goal of making everyone better. Our High School players support our younger players. Our teams’ skill level varies from Development teams to Elite teams. Our players vary from being the best in their age group and being part of Team Alberta, to learning how to dribble a ball. CBA Coaches understand the training differences between female and male athletes. Intensity, competition drills, discipline, and workouts are customized to each athlete’s needs.
CBA understands that club basketball is designed to be the "best of the best" in order to be on a club team. However, we also believe all players have the ability to be their best. Each year we give all our players a chance to earn a spot on our club teams. We believe players develop both skill and confidence when playing with other athletes at their same skill level. We also challenge our athletes in playing against stronger teams. We are not defined by our win/loss record but by the growth of the athlete’s skill and understanding of the game.
CBA is a supporter of Basketball Alberta. We encourage our athletes to tryout for Alberta Provincial Teams. We will work with Basketball Alberta to allow the athlete to train with both teams. In addition, Calgary Minor Basketball Association and CBA work together to make sure our programs work together and we allow our players to enjoy both programs.
Our coaches are dedicated to more then just basketball for our club. Our coaches are involved with CMBA, Basketball Alberta, Calgary High School Athletics, and the coaching staff along with the Mount Royal University Cougers and their coaching staff. The coaches of CBA and the program are well respected by these institutions and we are proud to be involved in their programs as well
Calgary Basketball Academy aspires to lead, develop and promote positive basketball experiences. We strive for excellence through Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Accountability, and Responsibility.
CBA believes in teaching the fundamentals. The fundamentals of basketball are key to being an all-around player. All players will learn and understand every position on the floor. Every training session includes lessons about the game itself, understanding the game, and what is expected from players when joining community teams, school teams and club teams. We train not only the physical skills of basketball but the mental skills as well.
Each player who earns a spot on a CBA Club team makes a commitment to their teammates, the coaches, their parents and the club. In return, CBA will commit to give each player the tools and training to be as competitive as possible and always striving to be the best team each time we set foot on the court
