Skilled and Experienced Coaches - Flexible Programming - Long-Term Athlete Development
We formed our first boys teams in 2011. Since then, the club has experienced significant growth, tripling the number of participants in our boys programs over the years.
CBA is committed to providing positive basketball experiences for even more young men in 2019 thanks to the work of dozens of outstanding CBA coaches and our great partnership with Clear Water Academy that provides CBA with a home practice gym throughout the year.
If you love the game and want to get better - this is the club for you.
No boys club in Alberta has senior coaches with more university/college coaching experience than CBA. This includes experience at the NCAA, U Sport and CCAA levels. An objective awareness of what is required to play beyond high school is essential and CBA programming is based on having a clear understanding of what university/college coaches are looking for and how to set players up for a productive and enjoyable experience at the university/college level. Former players make great coaches, and CBA has many of them coaching teams and programs in the club, but university/college coaching experience provides a clear understanding of what it takes to succeed at the next level and to help players find the right fit to ensure they land in the right program and have a productive post-secondary experience.
CBA does not require players/families to pay an annual fee to be part of the club. Players/families can pick and choose which programs fit best for their situation, although there is no denying that participating in more CBA programs will only help the chance of improving and having an even greater impact on community, club and school teams.
Unlike other budget models, CBA is proud of the fact that 100% of the fees that parents and guardians pay are invested in the teams that your son plays for. CBA does not provide free access to some players while requiring others to pay for their participation. The club does have a program designed to support players who cannot afford the cost of fees but 100% of this funding support
Our Programs are broken down as follows:
During the fall and winter, we break our groups down based on school grades:
*Often U12 players will play up with the JHS players, and U15 players will play up with the HS players in the winter and fall.
Skills Training (Fall): All Grades
We follow the Canada Basketball training curriculum and our coaching staff is made up of coaches who are committed to the Canada Basketball coach-training program.
Our coaches include former University and College players as well as coaches along with certified strength and conditioning coaches.
Our boys program is committed to skill development and gaining a better understanding of the game through small group games (2v2, 3v3, 4v4) which results in our club players developing individual skills and team play concepts.
Elite Skills Training (Fall): Junior High & High School
Intended for committed basketball players. Advanced skills training focused on: ball handling & shooting, play making & basic 2x2/2x3 principles, game play.
Open Gym (Fall & Winter): Junior High School
CBA has run a program called "Open Gym" for several years. During these sessions, players play 2v2, 3v3 and larger games, providing them with an opportunity to use their shooting and core skills in a game setting.
YYC Prep League (Fall): High School
CBA forms teams from High School players to play clubs in Calgary and southern Alberta that play in formal, refereed games. This league is committed to player development, creates a stronger basketball community and keep players more closely aligned to their clubs during the fall. Since players will train with their clubs throughout the fall, Prep League teams will not practice or have a designated coach. An emphasis will be placed on “play”, with coaches supervising games and encouraging players to apply the skills they are developing through their club training.
During the spring and summer seasons, we break our groups down based on grades as follows:
